822 Finger, Martyn Rudolph (CBE)

Description

Martyn Rudolph Finger was born in 1922 in Kalbar, Queensland and came to Darwin in 1966. He held various posts across government including the First Assistant Secretary of the Resources and Development Division in the Department of the Northern Territory. In 1975 Mr Finger moved across to the Legislative Assembly to work with Dr Goff Letts on constitutional development prior to Northern Territory self-government on 1 July 1978. During the period April-October 1975 Mr Finger was appointed the acting General Manager of the Darwin Reconstruction Commission. From 1 January 1977, Mr Finger was the Director-General of the Department of the Chief Secretary, and then the first Director-General of the Department of the Chief Minister from 1978. He made an unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat with the CLP (Country Liberal Party) in 1980, before returning to his government post. Mr Finger retired in 1984 and moved to Canberra. He passed away on 4 October 2011.
